Growth in the Number of People with Mental Disorders in Bulgaria

Prof. Vihra Milanova, Head of the Psychiatry Clinic at Alexandrovska Hospital, noted a growth in the number of people with mental illness due to stress. According to her observations, between 25% and 30% of the patients in the clinic are under 40 years of age, Actualno reported.

According to Milanova, the institutions that should be more sympathetic do not participate enough in the process. In her words, the special treatment that the people need after they go out of the hospitals is not enough or is absent. At least half of people with severe mental illness have no critical attitude and do not continue the treatment.

One of the reasons for the growing number of people with mental illness is the tense daily routine. Sadly, however, it is increasingly speculated that people with such diseases are committing crimes, and according to Milanova, they are usually victims of serious crimes.
