Bulgarian Minister of Defense Explains How the Voluntary Military Will Work

Krasimir Karakachanov - Bulgaria's Minister of Defense explained how the voluntary military service is going to work. He said that a plan for introducing a voluntary military service for 6 or 9 months is currently in the works. The Minister foresees an opportunity for both young men and women to benefit from the military training.

He even suggested that having served in the voluntary military may aid young people when they are looking for jobs as clerks or trying to apply to a state-funded university. The idea to give people some incentive to undergo military training and get signed into the reserve is admirable. The Minister explained that the basic principles will be based on the Swiss system - however, participation in military training will not be compulsory. On the other hand, such an incentive as an easier job or uni application is sure to draw some attention.
