The flow of refugees is down by 80%

According to official statistical data the Ministry of Internal Affairs has caught 80% less illegal migrants for the first half of 2017 in comparison to the first half of 2016. Let's talk real numbers - for the first six months of 2017 police officers and MOIA officials have caught 1461 people illegally passing through Bulgaria. For the same period of time last year that number was 7134. At the same time refugee camps are almost empty. On August 3rd there was a total of 1513 people, occupying the camps. This makes up about 29% of their total capacity.

A troubling detail to the statistics is, however, that a large portion of the migrants was caught within the country and not on the borders, where there are fences and hundreds of policemen. A total of 827 out of 1461 were caught in Bulgaria. Naturally, last year this same number was much higher - 2600. Still the tendecy remains that a good amount of illegal migrants manage to get pass the borders unnoticed. Newspaper "Sega" reports that 145 of the illegals came from Afghanistan. Only for this year the Bulgarian state has returned 1400 illegal migrants to their home countries, 41% of those people were Afghani. In the meantime the German authorities have announced that they won't be returning Afghani people to their country, as the risk in the region has increased.
