Sofia, Bulgaria will be Europe’s Sports Capital for 2018

During a ceremony held in Brussels, Sofia, Bulgria has been acknowledged as Europe’s sports capital for 2018.

The mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, together with three Bulgarian athletes – Tereza Marinova, Ekaterina Dafovska and Yordan Yovchev have attended a ceremony in Brussels, where Sofia was announced as Europe’s sports capital for 2018. Fandakova said that we are looking forward to Sofia successfully living up to the standards its predecessors have set. For the year of 2018 alone, there are more than 200 planned sports related events.

Yordanka Fandakova added that over the last few years there have been serious attempts to bring sports into Sofia’s everyday life. 44 outdoor fitness centres have been built and 17 playgrounds. Many of the local schools have received renovations and extensions of their sports centres and new ones have been built to service the needs of schools. Over the year of 2018, local authority in Sofia has planned the building of four sports centres for kindergartens and two for high schools.
