Bulgarian Poverty Line for 2018 will be 321 Leva

The Bulgarian government voted in the official line of poverty for 2018, which is 321 leva (160€.) There is a 7 leva increase since the current year’s definition. The minimum wage in Bulgaria is 460 leva, with an expected increase to 510 leva.

How much do you have to earn to avoid poverty?

This new definition will be used in future lawmaking and social policies. The National Statistics Institute through surveying the costs of living in the country gave the number 321. According to Trud, 23% of Bulgarians lived below that poverty line. That’s about 1.5 million people. Recently, a study showed that the price of having a family with parents and two kids is around 2300 leva. With these numbers in mind, the demographic collapse of the country wouldn't come as a surprise.

The price is average for the entire country. Living in the larger cities like Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, or Varna will certainly be higher than living in the provincial parts of Bulgaria.
