62-Year-Old Bulgarian Man Arrested in Austria for Smuggling Illegal Migrants

A Bulgarian truck driver was arrested in Austria for smuggling 18 illegal migrants. It happened on the Hungary-Austria border. 10 men, 3 women, and 5 children were hiding in the truck. The migrants were mostly from Iraq or Palestine.

The man was 62 and a Bulgarian citizen. His name, face, or identity remain unknown due to the legal system of Austria. The news was reported by the Bulgarian News Agency, and their source is Austrian media. The man was caught at the Nickelsdorf border checkpoint while trying to cross.

The operations for smuggling migrants are quite lucrative in Bulgaria since the country’s citizens can travel freely in the European Union, albeit with border control between Bulgaria and Schengen, and Bulgaria gets a large influx of Middle-Eastern and African migrants who’d want to reach the West. A similar case occurred last month when another Bulgarian driver was arrested in Belgium. Again, migrants from the Middle East were transported from Eastern Europe to the West.
