Bulgarian Red Cross Helps the Victims of the Burgas Flood

After the floods in Burgas politicians were quick to point fingers and blame different people or institutions. Some of the scandalous opinions included that weathermen were to blame for an inaccurate forecast. This, of course, is all very far fetched. The reality of the situation is that disaster happens and when it does it catches us by surprise - it's in the definition of the word - "a sudden accident or natural catastrophe".

The government is doing its job and checking every possible reason for said disaster. The Agency for "Safety Control of dams and their facilities" did a check-up on the dams near Burgas between October 27th and October 29th. The check-up showed that there are no operational or structural flaws in the facilities or in the walls themselves.

In the meantime the Bulgarian Red Cross is out there - "in the field" - helping people, evaluating the damage on and the needs of the locals. The Red Cross started a nation-wide campaign that managed to accumulate as much as 167 966 BGN within its first four days.

You can help by  sending an SMS from a Bulgarian operator to 1466 or donating directly to the Bulgarian Red Cross's bank account:
