Slavi Trifonov with Another Attack Against the Bulgarian Parliament

Yesterday talk show host Slavi Trifonov took on the government and the parliament in yet another Facebook rant. This time he attacked the new budget for 2018 that was also released yesterday. Article 65 of the budges determines the subsidies for political parties post-election. The subsidy remains 11 BGN (6.5 Euro) for each actual vote in the elections. We would like to remind you that during last year's presidential election there was also a referendum initiated by Trifonov and his colleagues. One of the questions was - Do you support the subsidy for each party to be 1 BGN (0.5 Euro) for an actual vote in the elections. 2 516 791 Bulgarians answered to the question with "yes'.

However, the referendum was short of about 15 000 people to fully pass without the need for discussion in the National Assembly. By law, the parliament should have spoken out on the three questions from the referendum until September 14th of this year. This did not happen. Slavi's Facebook rant begins with one simple question - "Dear friends, what do you think of when you hear the words "The Insolents"?" He then goes on to explain how many would instinctively think about the crime group that used to kidnap rich people's children some years ago. Of course, his definition of the word insolent is - you guessed it - a politician. He openly called the MPs and the government "The Insolent".

Trifonov's outrage is expected - over 2,5 Million people said that political parties should get less money. Then again - nobody really cares. Let's take a look at some numbers. Had the referendum passed, GERB - the election's winner - should have received a subsidy of 1.15 Million BGN, but now they will be receiving 12.6 Million. The runner-up - the Bulgarian Socialist Party - will be receiving 10.5 Million instead of 955k. The list goes on. Each party will, essentially, be receiving 11 times more than the Bulgarian people would want them to.
